A qualified mechanical engineer, Rohit Thombre left his home in Solapur to settle in Pune for better employment opportunities. He was focused on working diligently, rising up the ranks and saving for a comfortable future. Six years into the job, he bought a house of his own.
His flourishing career came crashing down when he experienced sudden sight loss at the age of 27. He caught a fever which permanently damaged his optic nerve. Along with the job, he lost his independence. Desperate for alternatives, Rohit surfed the internet with little remaining vision.
When he contacted Eyeway, it was clear that he wasn’t ready to give up. And that’s what our counselor started to build upon. Rohit was advised to look at employment options in the banking sector. He was guided on new ways of interacting with the physical environment, and also introduced to technology that enabled him to read and write independently. Eyeway recommended a personal trainer who could teach ways of using smartphone and computer with screen reading software.
Rohit regained his confidence and prepared for various competitive exams. When he was offered a clerical post in a bank, he felt over-qualified for the position. But our counselor encouraged him to take up the job and compete for a senior level.
Recently in May 2020, Rohit cleared his banking exams securing the position of a Probationary Officer at Bank of Maharashtra. Subsequently, Eyeway put him in touch with other visually impaired bankers who can share personal experiences and tips to perform efficiently in this new role.
Timely assistance, willingness to adapt and work hard, paved a new road to success for Rohit.
