Sapna Kumari, a young woman from Bihar, has been living with Glaucoma since childhood. Growing up in a modest family, with her father working as a farmer and her mother managing the household, Sapna learned early on that determination would be her greatest strength. As the only visually impaired member among her siblings, her journey came with its own set of challenges—but also a strong sense of purpose.

Despite her visual impairment, Sapna pursued her education through inclusive schooling and successfully completed her 10th and 12th under the Bihar Board. In 2024, she took a significant step forward by enrolling at CRC Patna to pursue a Diploma in Special Education. At the same time, she also began working toward a History Honours degree from IGNOU, balancing multiple academic goals with determination.

However, continuing her education effectively required access to technology—especially a smartphone. With 75% disability, Sapna applied for a smartphone under the ALIMCO scheme through CRC Patna. But she was initially denied, as she was incorrectly told that only individuals with 100% disability were eligible.

Unsure of what to do next, Sapna reached out to Eyeway for guidance. The helpline team informed her that, as a student, she was indeed eligible for a smartphone with a minimum of 40% disability. Going a step further, Eyeway directly intervened by contacting the concerned officials at CRC Patna and clarifying the correct guidelines under the scheme.

With the right information and timely advocacy, the situation changed. The authorities agreed, and in March 2024, Sapna finally received her smartphone.

This single device has transformed her daily life. Today, Sapna uses her phone to attend online lectures, access study materials, and prepare for competitive exams like SSC MTS and Railway Group D. Platforms like YouTube and WhatsApp have become her learning tools, helping her stay connected, informed, and confident in her preparation.

Beyond academics, the smartphone has opened doors to independence and self-reliance. Sapna is not only continuing her studies with greater ease but also developing digital skills that will support her future career.

Sapna’s journey highlights an important truth—often, the biggest barrier is not disability, but lack of correct information. With the right guidance and support, she was able to claim what was rightfully hers and move forward with confidence.
