Uttam Kumar, originally from Jharkhand and now living in Delhi with his family, is steadily working toward a future built on independence and self-reliance. Coming from a family of eight, he is the only member with visual impairment, a reality that brought its own set of challenges, especially after he lost his vision later in life.

Adjusting to vision loss was not easy. It required Uttam to relearn everyday tasks and rethink how he would continue his education and career. Instead of stepping back, he chose to move forward. He completed his graduation from Vinoba Bhave University and went on to build practical skills by enrolling in a computer course at the National Association for the Blind in Delhi.

It was during this time that Uttam came to know about Eyeway. When he reached out, he shared a clear goal: he wanted to improve his English communication skills, knowing that it would play a crucial role in both employment and competitive exam preparation.

With guidance, Uttam enrolled in an English learning programme through the Desai Foundation. Through consistent practice and dedication, he completed the basic course and continued to the advanced level. Over time, he became more confident in speaking and expressing himself, a change that significantly boosted his self-belief.

Alongside this, Uttam remained focused on his long-term goal of securing a government job. He is currently preparing for competitive exams, particularly SSC, while also building his skills through structured training programmes. His journey reflects a balanced effort, strengthening both communication and technical abilities.

Uttam’s progress highlights how access to the right guidance and resources can make a meaningful difference. What once felt like a setback has gradually turned into a journey of growth. Today, he moves forward with greater clarity, confidence, determination and working step by step toward a stable and independent future.
