Deepali Pawar from Nashik, Maharashtra led a normal life for seventeen years. She attended regular school and loved spending time with friends. All this suddenly changed as she began to lose eyesight. Within days, she went completely blind. Disoriented by this shocking development, her parents approached many eye hospitals hoping to restore their daughter’s vision but it yielded no result.
Deepali was compelled to discontinue her education. The family, with no awareness about rehabilitation programmes, turned overprotective and confined her to the four walls of their home.
A few years later, she incidentally came across a visually impaired girl who was pursuing studies using assistive technology. Realizing that she too could complete her education, Deepali enrolled for BA Programme through distance learning and successfully completed it.
Now 28 years old, Deepali wants to get a job and financially assist her family. On hearing a promotional message on the radio, she contacted Eyeway. Our Maharashtra Helpdesk counselor advised her on the importance of fluency with computers and communication to avail employment opportunities. The counselor also guided her on using computers and browsing the internet, over a series of phone calls. This helped her with accessing other assistive applications as well.
But for proper certifications, Deepali was recommended to enroll for advanced computer learning as well as English speaking courses. Equipped with the initial demos from Eyeway, she is able to attend several online training programmes. These are helping her acquire adequate skills for promising job prospects.
Eyeway will continue to work with Deepali to ensure that her desire to lead an independent and productive life culminates into a reality.
