Life Comes Full Circle

In 2019, Deepak Aggarwal’s life took a sharp turn. A 35-year-old educator and entrepreneur in Delhi, Deepak lost his vision due to retinitis pigmentosa—a rare eye condition. Forced to shut down the educational institute he had built and taught at, he was left grappling with emotional distress and an uncertain future.

Living with his mother and supported by his two brothers, Deepak tried to make sense of a life that had suddenly changed. While searching online for help, he discovered the Eyeway Helpline. The counselors at Eyeway not only offered emotional reassurance but also practical solutions, assuring him that blindness did not mean the end of independence or dignity.

With their guidance, he obtained his disability certificate, applied for a monthly pension, and even got his railway concession certificate. Deepak then enrolled in computer training at the National Association for the Blind (NAB) in Delhi. There, he learned to use assistive technologies like NVDA and JAWS, equipping him with the digital literacy now essential in the job market. He also underwent customer service training, which helped him land a job at Saarthi CRM Pvt. Ltd., where he worked for three years.

Eyeway introduced him to everyday assistive apps which helped him regain control of his personal life. In August 2023, Deepak applied for a helpline counselor position at Eyeway—the same organization that had once supported him. He was selected.

Now, as a counselor at Eyeway, Deepak provides the same support, information, and motivation to others that once empowered him. From being a caller in need to becoming a guiding voice on the other end of the line, his journey truly embodies the idea that life comes full circle.
