During the nationwide lockdown, Eyeway helpline has been receiving numerous calls from visually impaired people across India for help with delivery of food, medicines and other essentials. Some have even asked for financial help to pay off rent and other utility bills.
We’ve been trying to meet their requests with coordinated effort from NGOs and volunteers. In response to our call for help in Wardha district of Maharashtra, a visually impaired college student, Harshad Chakradhare took on himself to find solutions.
He was lucky to get back home from Mumbai, just days before the lockdown.
In a short span, Harshad reached out to local NGOs, some individual donors, including a few friends and ensured delivery of ration kits to many families in Wardha. He has contacted the district administration for meeting the needs of larger groups. In fact, his enthusiasm and resourcefulness has helped many Eyeway callers in and around Mumbai too.
Harshad’s blindness in no way limits him from extending support to fellow citizens in distress, and he is glad that Eyeway gave him a chance.
