Not the End of the Road

Sukruta Lotlikar, a 26-year-old from Mumbai, has lived with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive eye condition that gradually affects vision. From an early age, she encountered difficulties that went far beyond her disability. Limited accessibility in schools meant she struggled to see the blackboard, eventually leading her to continue her education in a blind school. Yet, these challenges never diminished her determination to build a meaningful future.

With perseverance, Sukruta continued her academic journey and later studied at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, where she strengthened her command of English and broadened her ambitions. Like many young aspirants across Maharashtra, she set her sights on a government job and began preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission examinations.

Her efforts paid off when she cleared the MPSC Clerk Typist Mains exam and found her name on the merit list. However, a technical error during the “Post Proficiency” stage—when candidates choose their preferred departments—created a serious obstacle. Due to a mistake during the form-filling process at a cyber cafe, Sukruta was able to select only one department instead of multiple options. When the final list was released, her name was missing.

Unsure how to address the situation, Sukruta reached out to Eyeway for guidance. Through counselling and structured advice, she learned how to formally communicate with authorities, file applications, and seek clarity through the Right to Information Act. With legal support and persistence, it became clear that the seat she had applied for had been filled by another candidate with a higher score.

Although the outcome meant that the specific opportunity could not be reclaimed, the experience strengthened Sukruta’s confidence and independence. She learned the importance of using assistive technology and verifying critical processes herself, reducing reliance on others in future applications.

Today, Sukruta works at an HR agency while continuing to prepare for future government opportunities. Her journey reflects resilience and growth—demonstrating that while setbacks may alter the path, they do not define the destination.
