The Power of Support in Achieving Dreams

Raushan Kumar, a 22-year-old from Koderma district in Jharkhand, grew up in a modest household where financial challenges were a part of everyday life. His father, who had once worked as a para teacher, lost most of his vision due to glaucoma, and his mother manages the household. Supporting a family of five with limited resources was not easy, yet education and perseverance remained central to Raushan’s journey.

Raushan himself lives with Nystagmus, a condition that affects eye movement and makes it difficult to focus on text for long periods. Preparing for competitive examinations while dealing with this condition required immense patience and determination. Long hours of study often strained his eyes, but giving up was never an option for him.

While preparing for his future, Raushan also worked to support himself. He spent time working as a rural postal service worker and later as a junior statistical officer. Balancing work and exam preparation was demanding, yet he continued to move forward with the hope of building a secure career.

During his preparation, Raushan searched online for guidance related to disability documentation and exam support. This led him to Eyeway, a platform that provides information and support to persons with visual impairment. When he contacted the helpline, he was facing difficulties in obtaining the required medical certificate needed for his job and examination processes.

Eyeway provided step-by-step guidance and actively supported him through the process. The team helped him understand the documentation requirements and coordinated with the concerned medical authorities to ensure that his case was addressed. Through this intervention, he was able to successfully obtain the medical certificate he needed.

Beyond this, Eyeway also guided him on accessing examination accommodations, including information about the provision of a scribe and other support available for candidates with visual impairment. This guidance helped him approach the examination process with greater clarity and confidence.

After years of balancing work, preparation, and health challenges, Raushan’s efforts finally bore fruit. When the results of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examination were announced, he secured the 340th rank and was selected for the Jharkhand Forest Service.
