From Seeking Support to Sharing Strength

Dhanji Kumar, a 24-year-old from Rohtas district in Bihar, lost his eyesight in 2003 due to eye cancer. His family—parents, grandmother, and two younger brothers—stood by him as he went through several rounds of treatment in different hospitals, including PGI Chandigarh, where doctors managed to restore partial vision.

Determined not to let his vision loss stop him, Dhanji continued his studies and completed his 10th, 12th, and graduation (BA) from Bihar University. However, after finishing college, he struggled to find the right direction for his career and was unsure how to use technology or resources that could support his low vision.

Things began to change when he connected with the Eyeway Helpline, where he received guidance on how to study and work effectively with low vision. Counselors helped him learn about assistive tools and opportunities that could enhance his skills and independence.

In 2024, with Eyeway’s advice, Dhanji joined Enable India for an employability course designed for people with low vision. The program helped him build computer and office productivity skills, and the organization also supported his accommodation and expenses during the training. He gained practical experience through internships, which boosted his confidence and prepared him for professional life.

In 2025, Dhanji joined Enable India’s Lucknow center as a trainer, working alongside Jayati Bharatam. Today, he trains visually impaired children, helping them become independent, skilled, and confident in using technology.

From seeking support to becoming a source of support for others, Dhanji’s journey reflects resilience and the power of guidance. He continues to inspire others with visual impairment to pursue education, learn new skills, and live with confidence and purpose.
