Jay Ram, a 20-year-old from Fulashganj, Jehanabad, Bihar, is pursuing his graduation from Magadh University while preparing for competitive examinations. He lives with his family. His father, Sudama Prakash, runs a fruit and vegetable shop, and his mother, Manju Devi, is a homemaker. He has a brother named Omanath.
Jay Ram experienced vision loss due to glaucoma. After consulting an eye specialist, he came to understand his condition and the impact it would have on his daily life. Vision loss created several challenges for him, particularly in continuing his education, accessing information, using technology, travelling independently, and preparing for future employment.

Finding the Right Guidance

In 2021, Jay Ram learned about the Eyeway Helpline through a person from Mumbai. Seeking information and guidance, he contacted the helpline to understand the educational, training, and employment opportunities available to persons with visual impairment.

During the counselling sessions, Jay Ram received information about various resources and opportunities, including assistive technology such as InstaReader, examination scribes, competitive examinations, computer training, and government employment opportunities.
The Eyeway Helpline also informed him about Manobal Deepstambh, where he could receive support for competitive-examination preparation. He was guided to NAB Dwarka for computer and mobility training and was also introduced to Sarthak Educational Trust for information about employment opportunities and support services.

Building Skills and Confidence

Following the guidance, Jay Ram took steps to strengthen his skills and improve his independence. From May to July 2026, he completed computer and mobility training at NAB Dwarka.
During the training, he developed mobility skills and learned to use a mobile phone and computer more independently. He gained practical knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Notepad, and other essential applications. The training helped him become more comfortable with technology and strengthened his confidence in using digital tools independently.

Preparing for the Future

Jay Ram is currently continuing his graduation from Magadh University and preparing for competitive examinations with support from Manobal Deepstambh. He is focused on developing his skills and working towards suitable employment in the future.
Jay Ram's journey demonstrates how access to timely information, counselling, training, and appropriate support services can help persons with visual impairment continue their education and work towards greater independence. Through the Eyeway Helpline, he was connected with organisations and resources relevant to his educational and career goals.
With support from Manobal Deepstambh, NAB Dwarka, and Sarthak Educational Trust, along with the skills gained through computer and mobility training, Jay Ram is continuing his education and preparing for competitive examinations with a clear focus on building his future career.
