A studio for recording talking books in the digital format was opened at the Drishti Technology Centre here today. The centre is run by an NGO, Saksham Punjab, at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya.

The studio has been funded by the Ramesh Chander Memorial Trust. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen welcomed the guests and appreciated their generosity towards the cause.

The principal said together as a team — the college, NGO Saksham Punjab, and Ramesh Chander Memorial Society – could do a lot in future for the benefit of the visually impaired.

Dr Prem Sagar, coordinator, Drishti Technology Centre; Dr Ashmeen Kaur; in-charge; and Deepika Sood, general secretary, Saksham Punjab; were also present on the occasion. Deepika said the Saksham Punjab Charitable Trust was established in September 2012 to undertake the activities for persons with visual disabilities.

She said, “The NGO is aimed at producing talking books in accessible formats in all subjects, including mathematics and science. In four years, we have produced approximately more than 500 titles in the Punjabi, Hindi and English medium for the students of Classes IX to XII of the Punjab State Education Board.”
