Two year Certificate Course in Physiotherapy

Mon, 07/23/2012 - 17:26 -- admin

INTRODUCTION OF THE COURSE:

Physiotherapy is one of the professions supplementary to medicine. It is used to restore and increase the impaired bodily function and to help the patients to achieve maximum efficiency in their activities of daily living at home, at work or at leisure.

This is a profession and practical requiring skill, precision and understanding based on theoretical knowledge. The syllabus includes knowledge and understanding of Anatomy, Physiology, Behavioral Science and the psychological aspects of patient care.

During the last decade of the 19th century the suitability of this work for blind persons was recognized and training in massage was instituted. In 1915, The Royal National Institute for the Blind School of Physiotherapy was opened in U.K. and since then there have been continuous developments in the method of training of the blind physiotherapists.

iIn India, The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind, Mumbai had set up such a course in 1940’s. Currently Blind People’s Association, Ahmedabad runs a training course in Physiotherapy. They prepare the candidates to work in the physiotherapy department of the hospitals. Some of them are into private practice.

We are convinced that this course will open a new avenue of employment for the visually impaired students in the paramedical field, giving them an equal opportunity to serve the society as well as to earn for themselves with dignity. With this aim in view the National Association for the Blind, Department of Rehabilitation started a similar training course in Mumbai from June 1996.

On completion of the Course Candidates can practice privately as physiotherapists or can join any Hospital/Polyclinic/OPD Jobs.
