Members of the Netraheen Kalyan Manch here today continued their hunger strike in protest against the state government for failing to fulfil their long-pending demands.

Spokesman of the Manch, Ravish Kumar, said the government had filled 136 posts against the total of 182 vacancies in the group D category for visually-impaired employees. The government had failed to fill the backlog of reserved posts since 1995, he added.

Their other demands include increase in pension from Rs 1,800 to Rs 5,000 as being given by the Delhi government, he said.

Though the state government had upgraded the Panipat School for Blind from high school to higher secondary, no lecturers had been appointed at the institution, he added. He claimed that the government had also failed to appoint Principal for the school.

The training centre being run at the school was not recognised by any institution, he said. The training centre should be shifted out of the school and recognised by the ITI, he added.
