Blind chess is in need of more government support, says AICFB president Charudatta Jadhav
All India Chess Federation for Blind conducts 35-40 tournaments in the year, says AICFB head.

PUNE The All India Chess Federation for Blind (AICFB) was established in 1997 and currently has 14 state-affiliated bodies under its domain. Charudatta Jadhav, president of AICFB, says finance is always a struggle and a lack of government support does not ease the sport for the visually impaired.

Visually-impaired teen scores big

BENGALURU : For Varsha U, life has been a challenging journey as she was born with partial blindness. Over the years, her vision got weaker and by the time Varsha turned 16, she went completely blind. However, her childhood interest in sports and athletics grew stronger and today, she is a part of India’s first domestic national cricket league for blind women in Delhi to represent Karnataka. The tournament has been organised by Cricket Association for the Blind in India and supported by Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.

People with visually impairment who work at banks complained that some of them are not provided with tools, such as screen readers, required to perform their job.

At the first general body meeting of Visually Impaired Bank Employees Welfare Association (VIBEWA) held in Secunderabad on Sunday, members of the association have resolved to pursue departments concerned to address their issues, including money allotted for commuting between home and office.

Big Bazaar initiative Able Hands brings together disabled and non-disabled people

This Saturday on 7 December Big Bazaar has something new planned as part of its #SabkeLiye accessible shopping experience. JNU Prof develops Braille model to teach visually-challenged students chemistry

A Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor has developed a Braille model to teach chemistry to visually-challenged students. Talking about his research, professor BS Balaji said he had developed a simple lock-and-key model to teach chemistry concepts to visually-impaired students. He added that owing to the current limitations in science education for blind students, he had designed the model to address these shortcomings.

Interesting innovations pitched at the Voice Vision Entrepreneurial Idea Awards for blind entrepreneurs

Mumbai-based NGO Voice Vision’s Entrepreneurial Idea Award for 2019 were announced this week. The aim of the awards is to encourage visually impaired with the view to enable the community to be job creators rather than job seekers.

Centre urged to implement Disability Act-2016 in J&K

Jammu, December 3

As the world observed Disability Day, physically challenged persons in Jammu and Kashmir continue to be deprived of their rights.

The J&K Handicapped Welfare Association on Tuesday demanded that the Central government should implement the provisions of the Disability Act-2016 as the state had become a Union Territory now.

The association has also demanded self-help groups for economic uplift of the physically challenged persons who have faced discrimination in the erstwhile J&K state.
