Isobar India has launched the ‘Blind Faith Upgrade’ a kit that enables hotels to transform any of its rooms into a visually-impaired-friendly room.

First introduced at Hotel Ramada, Ajmer in Rajasthan, the Blind Faith Upgrade Kit uses innovative design to provide customer service for the differently-abled traveller as well as create business opportunity by supporting accessible tourism.

Mozhi project to open up world of fiction for the blind

Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with Reading Month observance, ‘Koottu’, an organization engaged in providing assistance to blind/partially-blind students, has launched a one-month-long programme titled ‘Mozhi’ to help them enjoy short stories, novels and poetry.
Through ‘Mozhi’, the volunteers of Koottu aims to collect voice records of stories, short stories, and poems from the people from various walks of the society and thereby open up the world of fiction to their blind members.

Skateboarding requires truckloads of nerves, coordination, and agility. So, imagine the level of skill and confidence a visually impaired person would need on a skateboard! Which is what makes Dan Mancina such a remarkable guy.

Mancina was 13 years old when he was diagnosed with a retinal degenerative disease. At the age of 22, he lost his vision completely and almost gave up on his passion to skateboard.

Mancina has been skateboarding since he was seven, but he thought that the rapid onset of blindness would mean he would be forced to give it up.

Diya Roy is indeed a star. A bright student and singer, Diya dons many hats at the same time. This Kolkata girl is blind. But she aims for nothing lesser than the stars!

Diya scored 84.6% in her higher secondary exams. Her parents Uday Shankar and Chaithali are extremely proud while talking about their daughter.

But Goa is all set to own an exclusive institute for both deaf and blind children. Authorities claim that this centre will be one-of-its-kind.

After Delhi HC order, RBI to ease identification of banknotes for visually challenged

Pursuant to recommendations made before the Delhi High Court in April this year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has intimated that it will be exploring ways to make identification of Indian currency easier for visually challenged persons.

To this end, the RBI has undertaken to develop suitable identification devices/mechanisms following consultation with stakeholders. Furthermore, the body is also expected to issue necessary guidelines within six months.

A statement issued by the RBI dated June 6 states,

National Blindness Survey: 62 to 65 per cent of those surveyed randomly had cataracts

In a bid to eliminate blindness from India, the Union health ministry conducted a National Blindness Survey (2015-2018) in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

But what came out in the survey is striking and alarming as nearly "62 to 65 per cent of those surveyed randomly were found to be having cataract".
