Four activists from Mumbai will be awarded for their consistent efforts to make basic services accessible to persons with disabilities

Mumbai: For four Mumbaikars, years of hard work to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities have finally paid off. They have figured in a list of 14 winners for this year’s Mphasis Universal Design Awards, instituted by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, an NGO.

Delhi man with ‘partial visual impairment’ crushed by Metro at Mandi House

A 58-year-old man, who the police said was partially visually impaired, died after he fell on the tracks and was crushed by a train at Mandi House Metro station on Friday evening.

The incident, which took place during peak traffic hours in the evening, delayed Metro services for over an hour, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said.

Library to help visually challenged visitors

All district central libraries in the State will have an exclusive section for visually challenged visitors as in Tiruchi.

The District Central Library in Tiruchi, a member of book-share organistion, has created 3,500 audio books with help of volunteers. A good number of visually challenged youth visit the audio section of the library on a daily basis to further their careers. At a meeting of such volunteers hosted by the DCL recently, a discussion took place on the way forward for empowering visually challenged readers.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat governor O P Kohli on Sunday felicitated four persons with visual impairment for their outstanding achievements, whereas two others were recognized for their work in disability sector as part of state level awards for outstanding blind persons.
