Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday assured a visually impaired person an assistance of Rs 50,000 and directed Deputy Commissioner Aditya Dahiya to help him become self-employed.

The CM was here on Sunday at the PWD Rest House where he heard the grievances of the people without any prior plan.

As the people came to know about the arrival of the CM, they rushed to the rest house and apprised the CM about their grievances.

Earlier this month, the Election Commission announced the launch of the electoral photo identity card (EPIC) in braille for millions of India’s visually impaired citizens.

Taking the initiative one step further, the braille EPIC cards were issued to three visually impaired voters in Karnataka in a bid to make the voting process a lot more inclusive.

Irrapa Hejagar from Gokak in Belagavi, Basvaraj from Jewargi in Kalburgi and Vina from Harihar received their braille EPIC cards from senior officials of the Karnataka election commission.

Have you ever browsed the internet, our most basic need today, while being blindfolded? You would ask, what’s even the use of that? You might think that for a visually impaired person, the crucible of information that is the internet, is too far away from grasp.

Most of the information we consume is based on visual cues. From signboards on the roads to captcha filling on the internet, the world is set around a majority of people who are fully abled.

How safe is our country for elderly and ailing people? Reports confirm that most of them face abuse under the hands of their own children! For instance, a 100 year old blind woman named Karishna Dasi from Ludhiana in Punjab, had to face abuse from her own daughter.

According to reports, Karishna was locked inside her daughter’s home for more than ten days. A social worker alerted the local police and advocates about the incident. They rushed to the house to find the blind and elderly woman having an extremely difficult time trying to survive.

HC tells JNU to declare admission results

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to immediately declare the admission results for MPhil and PhD courses for the current academic session, barring the 5% unfilled seats for students with disability.

A Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar said it had earlier stayed the admission for the courses to the unfilled seats for students with disability only and not the entire process.

Parents and caregivers of disabled kids in Gujarat take note! A new centre called Urmi Divyang School Research & Therapy centre, which will look into research as well as therapy needs of disabled students has been opened in Sama in Vadodara.

The centre promises to reach out to children with physical and mental disabilities irrespective of their economic backgrounds. It will provide, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sensory integrated therapy and speech therapy.
