The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has decided to allocate Rs. 100 crore from the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) to the A.P. government towards skill development programmes. It has also agreed to consider setting up another branch of the National Institute of Mentally Handicapped (NIMH) at Amaravati, according to the Union Minister of State, Ramdas Athawale, on Monday.

The phone never stops ringing at Pallavi Acharya’s house. It’s not hard to understand why: the 35-year-old has taken up the responsibility of arranging scribes for close to a 1,000 visually impaired students across Karnataka. In the last two years, Ms. Acharya, who is a consultant with the NGO Youth for Seva, has arranged scribes for 2,500 examinations for more than 350 visually impaired persons.

Visually impaired honoured for making a mark in their lives at SCD Government College

Visually-impaired persons, who have made a mark in their lives, was honoured during a function organised by the Punarjot Guldasta Eye Bank Society here today.
The function at SCD Government College saw the visually-impaired veterans share their words of wisdom.
Students of National Public School, Yelahanka, invited children of a blind school to spend quality time with them. Students from the blind school attended regular classes and they participated in quiz and other activities. SUPW club period provided some fun and relaxed learning. NPS students presented book marks made by them to blind children.
15 year old Tejas (name changed) has been undergoing eye treatment at the Low Vision Enhancement Centre of Shroff Charity Eye Hospital, Daryaganj, Delhi. He began losing his eyesight in February 2016 when he adversely reacted to an injection while being treated for another condition. Ms. Sonia at the Low Vision Enhancement Centre suggested visiting Score Foundation in order to understand how to proceed further. And so Tejas and his parents arrived at the Score Foundation office, hopeless and anxious. They poured their heart out to our Helpdesk team.
KOLLAM: It was a special occasion for Kerala when it became the first state to launch a disaster preparedness training programme for persons with disabilities. That was in May 2016. A year after, the state is again in the limelight.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which is in the process of chalking out guidelines for training the differently abled on survival skills in times of natural disasters and other emergency situations, has decided to seek the help of the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in preparing it.

Treat the differently-abled as the “most treasured” passengers, the Delhi High Court on Monday told the Railways which it blamed for a visually impaired man missing his M.Phil entrance exam as he could not board a reserved coach since it was locked from inside.
A Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C.Hari Shankar noted that the youth tried to reach Delhi on July 3 for the exam to be held on July 5, but could not as he first did not get a confirmed seat.

Minister for Women and Child Development, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Prafulla Samal announced this while visiting Sahoo at KIMS Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
