THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Art D’ Hope has chosen to celebrate ‘Helen Keller’, by presenting an exhibition of paintings on her at the Le Meridien, Kochi. Incidentally, Helen (1880-1968) was an American author and political activist. She was also the first visually and hearing-impaired person to earn a bachelor of arts degree.

High-tech devices aid visually-challenged

CHENNAI: A Class 12 student at a school for the blind in the city had heard about a ‘sensor walker’, but got to hold it only at the first assistive technology devices workshop in the state for the visually-challenged. The workshop was organised by Karna Vidya Foundation, an NGO for people with disabilities, at Anna University on Saturday.

Readers are aware that AICB vocational training courses are very popular in the country.  Students come from different states to undergo training here. 
 
During last financial year, 33 current and former trainees were selected by different Government departments for various posts. 17 out of 33 have already joined their duties.
 

Metro experience for visual and hearing impaired

BENGALURU: Visually and hearing impaired adults on Friday experienced their first ride on a portion of Namma Metro’s underground Corridor with the help of an NGO and IT concern, who facilitated it.  Sense International India had organised the ride for 34 visually and hearing impaired adults along with their interpreters from Swami Vivekananda Metro station to Cubbon Park Metro station. Thirteen volunteers from Cognizant also took part.
