ASR girl in blind cricket world championship

Visakhapatnam: A visually challenged girl from the tribal tracts of ASR district was part of the Indian Women Cricket team that won the championship defeating Australia, in Birmingham, UK, on Saturday.

The girl, Ravani, hails from Rangasingipadu village of Hukumpeta mandal in ASR district. Born to Gopalakrishna and Chittemma, Ravani studied at the government blind school in Visakhapatnam and later joined the same school in Hyderabad for her Intermediate.

Students with disabilities need special education and extra care which might not always be available to them. There are many challenges to this, the mindset of people, lack of awareness, shortage of trained teachers and a lot more.

Sixty-three-year-old Shankardas was born sighted to a middle-income family in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. He started losing his vision when he was studying in Class 7. And soon he became totally blind, finding it extremely difficult to continue with his education.

His family was not aware of special schools for blind students and the surrounding community also proved to be discouraging. Shankardas was told that even educated sighted people remain jobless and given his blindness, there was no chance for him to have a career.

KOCHI: Indian football has finally made it  it to the world stage thanks to the efforts of eight  visually impaired women who have achieved the feat of  representing the country at the IBSA World  Championship to be held in the United Kingdom from  August 14 to 21.
BSA World Championship is an international multi-sport event  that occurs every four years, organised by the  International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).
The  Indian women's blind football team has qualified for the  games after a 10-year-long effort put in by the  Indian Blind Football Federation  (IBFF).
