IIIT-Hyderabad, India, is conducting a training workshop for visually challenged individuals. The objective of this workshop is to train individuals on using computers through an open source screen reading software "NVDA" in both Indian accented English and in Telugu language. The Telugu text-to-speech system used in this workshop is being developed at IIIT-Hyderabad as a part of MCIT sponsored consortium project.
We are pleased to inform you that Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. – Maitree, is conducting the 8th All India batch of Advanced Computer Training Center (ACTC) for Visually Impaired. The training will be conducted in the premises of our partnering organization; Mitra Jyothi at Bangalore. This will be a 40-45 days residential training program and will commence on 16th July 2012.

Description: This training will help computer literate persons with disabilities enhance their computer skills. This training will focus on use of open source screen reader software for Hindi and regional language computing.
Braille Without Borders started a new project in Kerala, South India.
It is called the International Institute for Social Entrepreneurs (IISE).

We are bringing together people with visual impairment who are in to the stream of commerce & economics in an email group called VIPs in Commerce.
Because not many V I people take up commerce as their field of study or work, those few into it face difficulties in arranging for accessible material, knowing better ways of working & learning subjects such as accounts, economics, taxation, costing, finance etc. So we felt sharing of knowledge and experience is really needed in this domain.
We are so glad to inform you that Rotary Club of Cochin Global-Society for Rehabilitation of the Visually Challenged (RCG SRVC) Centre is planning to start the sixth batch of computer training for the visually challenged on February 6, 2012. The details are given below.

This is an initiative from Mitra Jyothi - Enable India team towards giving quality computer training for visually impaired people who are working or studying, and not able to attend regular computer training. This is a Short Term Orientation Course on Computer Application for Visually Impaired in collaboration with National
Institute of the Visually Handicapped (NIVH), Dehradun. Main goal of this course is to increase the candidate’s knowledge on Computer Basics and making them efficient in using computers independently.
