The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities to hold a meeting in 10 days to ensure that all government buildings are made disabled-friendly.

For, his office is on the third floor and has no lift or ramp leading up to it, making it inaccessible to many wheelchair-bound visitors who come to him with grievances.

Together they walk through the busy station at Vangani, weaving their way cautiously through the crowds. A beep from the metal detector tells them they have reached the platform. Santoshi and her eight-year-old son Akash join a group of visually impaired people that’s waiting for the train to Mumbai, an hour-and-a-half hour ride away.
