President Murmu urges visually impaired people to believe in own abilities

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu graced and addressed the golden jubilee celebration of the National Federation of the Blind today (August 3, 2023) in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that providing a dignified life to the persons with disabilities is the responsibility of the entire society. We have to ensure that they get proper education, employment opportunities, accessible public places, and a safer and better life.

Odisha Got Its first Higher Education School For Visually-Impaired Students

In a first, Odisha's Bhima Bhoi school for the blind got upgraded with Vocational and Higher Secondary School. Initially, 24 visually-challenged students are enrolled in Plus II first-year in the school. Students from across the State can take admission and study +2 in Science, Arts and IT which will also have hostel facilities
A 50-bed hostel building for both boys and girls will also be constructed on its premises soon. 

Make notes, coins visually-challenged friendly: Bombay HC to RBI

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to consider suggestions of an expert committee appointed by Delhi High Court to make visually- challenged friendly currency notes and coins.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Nitin M Jamdar and Justice Arif S Doctor was hearing a PIL filed by the National Association of the Blind (NAB), through advocate Uday Warunjikar, who raised the issue that people with visual impairment cannot identify the new currency notes and coins issued by the RBI.

Telangana to increase monthly pension for disabled persons

Addressing a public meeting in Mancherial district headquarters on Friday, Rao said the BRS government in the state stands for people's welfare and is aiming to expand mining activity in Singareni Collieries.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has announced an increase of Rs 1,000 per month in pension for persons with disabilities, taking the monthly payment to Rs 4,116.
