Blind get training in cashless transaction

VADODARA: The Vadodara district branch of the National Association for the Blind,Andhjan Kalyan Trust and Mumbai-based NGO Blind's Dream on Wednesday began a two-day conference to train the visually impaired in cashless transactions.

The workshop was kicked off to mark the World Braille Day. A total of 65 visually impaired teachers, workers and students were imparted training.

On the birth anniversary of Sir Louie Braille, 270 smart phones and 40 daisy players were distributed to students with visual impairment under ADIP scheme of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. Scholarships cheques worth `5 lakhs were also distributed to each of 66 students with visual impairment under National Scholarship Scheme of National Federation of the Blind.

This shows apathy of govt towards us: Visually impaired persons

Visually impaired persons who had organized a function to mark the World Braille Day turned emotional after invited officials skipped the event at SP College here. 

The event was organized by J&K Welfare Association for Blind, a group of visually impaired persons. The function was scheduled to start at 10:30 am, however, it was delayed as organizers waited for the officials who were invited to the function. 
 

However, as the officials did not turn up, many visually impaired persons turned emotional and burst into tears.

Kerala Federation of the Blind turns 50, Minister to launch financial assistance scheme for self-employment projects

As the Kerala Federation of the Blind (KFB) enters its 50th year, its members acknowledge that the plight of the visually impaired population in the State has improved immensely over the last few decades, although there is still a long way towards becoming a visually impaired-friendly society.

In 1967, when the federation was founded, the visually impaired were a neglected and stigmatised section of society, says Habeeb C., vice president, KFB.

School for visually impaired to start functioning in March in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 2 (UNI) A co-educational residential school for visually impaired children will start functional in the summer capital, Srinagar, from March 2017.
An official spokesperson here today said that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting to review the progress with regard to the establishment of the school at Parimpora in the city.
During the meeting, the Div Com said the Government had selected rented accommodation comprising 35 rooms at Parimpora for a school for visually impaired children.

Computer training for visually impaired

Fifty visually impaired college students were imparted hands-on computer training during a five-day residential programme that concluded here on Friday.

The residential programme was held at the National Institute of Technology here from December 26 to 30. The basic computer training was jointly organised by Jagajothi Readers Circle and NIT, Tiruchi.

The participating students, including 15 girls, were from Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Coimbatore and Virudhunagar districts.

Studio for recording talking books comes up in city

Jalandhar, December 9

A studio for recording talking books in the digital format was opened at the Drishti Technology Centre here today. The centre is run by an NGO, Saksham Punjab, at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya.

The studio has been funded by the Ramesh Chander Memorial Trust. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen welcomed the guests and appreciated their generosity towards the cause.
