New Delhi, May 15 Delhi High Court Wednesday directed the Empowered Committee of Delhi University (DU) to take into consideration the grievances of disabled students before implementing the four-year undergraduate programme with multiple degrees.
NEW DELHI: With admissions under PWD (Persons with Disability) category being decentralized, DU's Equal Opportunity Cell — which facilitated admissions into this category till last year — is working on a system that will make the process easier for applicants. A soon-to-be-constituted central enabling committee will serve as a monitoring body and also issue a special set of guidelines for colleges.
NEW DELHI: A day before DU had to submit its response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by disability rights NGO Sambhavana in the Delhi high court, the DU authorities issued a statement saying the academic council has decided in favour of making "suitable modifications" and has also constituted a committee.
Divya Jyothi Charitable Trust, Mysore, is offering courses in Spoken English and Computer Training for visually impaired students.
The course duration is 9 months starting from June 2013 to March 2014. The date of commencement is 17 June 2013.

NEW DELHI: An organization of disabled teachers and students moved Delhi high court challenging Delhi University's decision to go ahead with its controversial four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP).
The organization, Sambhavana, has filed a PIL in HC seeking a stay on the implementation of the four-year degree programme. The PIL argues that the present design of FYUP is discriminatory as it fails to take into consideration the aspirations and specific needs of students with blindness and other "print-disabilities".

For the first time the Election Commission has introduced Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Braille to help people who have vision disability vote in the May 5 assembly elections in Karnataka.
Official sources said voters with this disability, physically disabled, women voters who come with infants can directly walk into the polling booth without waiting in line for their term.
Senior citizens can also cast their vote without waiting in the queue. The EC has also allowed provision of drinking water to voters.
Campaigning for the May 5 polls ends today.
