Despite the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) repeatedly issuing circulars to all scheduled commercial banks across the country to provide banking facilities to customers with disabilities at a par with non-disabled people, the majority of disabled people continue to be inconvenienced by the banks. The situation is especially grim in rural areas and post the demonetisation announcement.

HARYANA CM ANNOUNCES PROJECT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced two major projects for the welfare of persons with disabilities in the State. These included setting up of a Composite Regional Centre at Faridabad and also a manufacturing unit of aids and appliances for physically challenged persons in the district.

There are 15 million people in India who are blind, and 80% of these cases are preventable if screened early. When K Chandrasekhar learnt about this data during his casual interaction with a senior ophthalmologist, he came up with an idea of Forus Health with a goal to prevent avoidable blindness, and to make eye screening affordable and accessible to all.

Founded in 2010, Bengaluru-based Forus Health has done 1,300 installations of its different products in 25 countries.

BENGALURU: Bangalore University has allegedly denied admission to some differently-abled students at its free hostels on the Jnana Bharati campus. According to a complaint filed by six students, in the last Syndicate meeting, it was approved that differently-abled students will be admitted to post-graduate hostels, but the authorities concerned have declined them.

“The meeting gave approval to admit 10 differently-abled students, but the authorities are refusing admissions to six of us,” one of the students, Dhananjay, told Express.
