Visually impaired struggle to get scribes to write in regional languages

Tue, 07/26/2016 - 10:38 -- geeta.nair

Visually impaired students in the city find it difficult to find scribes when they have to write examinations in languages other than English. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), who generally arrange for these scribes, say that while it is relatively easier to find volunteers to write answer papers in English, not many come forward to write in Kannada or other regional languages.

Employment

People who are blind or visually impaired can perform almost any job you can imagine: lawyer, artist, accountant, secretary, customer service representative, food service worker, factory worker, financial analyst, teacher, medical transcriptionist, day care worker, counselor, computer programmer, cook, salesperson, clerk, and more. We cannot count the number of different jobs people who are blind or visually impaired are engaged in today or will be in the future. The possibilities are tremendous.

Education

Finding appropriate educational opportunities for students with visual impairment can be quite a challenging task. Should the child be enrolled in a special school, or an inclusive school? Where does one find an inclusive school? Where can I find teachers who are trained to make children with blindness learn with comfort? These are questions that keep bothering individuals with blindness/visual impairment, their parents and caregivers.

No matter what your age is, you can take up education as LEARNING IS A LIFE LONG PROCESS.
