Visually impaired duo fulfils sound dreams

Ludhiana: Thirty-six-year old visually challenged Sandeep Singh and his 43-year-old friend Gurpreet Singh Chahal, who is also visually challenged, have become an inspiration for others as they have started web radio 'Sach dee Goonj' with a vision to bring the visually challenged artists and achievers at par with others. They have their listeners not only in India, but also across the world.

Painting exhibition for visually-impaired commences today

When city-based painter Chintamani Hasabnis graduated from his art college in 1986, he vowed against exhibiting his works at an exhibition unless his works had a social message or were capable of contributing to the society in some way. Although he continued painting all these years, he never showcased them. Three-and-a-half years ago, he encountered a ‘subject’ that was worth an exhibition.

Mizo Students Union (MSU), in collaboration with Mizoram Blind Society, Aizawl College Joint Students Union, Human Rights and Law Network, etc have taken steps to move the Govt. Of Mizoram to discontinue the service of Ms. B.Sairengpuii, Commissioner, Persons With Disabilities, Mizoram.

B.Sairengpuii retired from Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Govt. Of Mizoram in the year October,2012. She was re-employed in October,2012 as Commissioner, PWD, Mizoram.

Flavin Returns with Job Offer

KOCHI: Flavin Gracious of Vypeen, a visually challenged  girl who came to receive braille laptop returned home with a job offer given by the Chief Minister.

Flavin, who has many qualifications to her credit including MA, MEd, NET, SET and JRF, is a rank-holder at the university level.

City's Disabled Can't 'Go' Outside

BENGALURU: Swachh Bengaluru is woefully short of disabled-friendly toilets. A quick survey of busy spots, across the city, found that most did not have such a facility. 

The few disabled-friendly toilets were locked away or badly maintained. Ramps and railings were missing in most places and we were not able to spot even one braille signage.
