Government plans special for specially-abled on December 3
BHUBANESWAR: Specially-abled people from across the State will be participating in an array of events on December 3 on the occasion of the International Day for Persons with Disability. The events, to be organised by Department of Social Security and Empowerment of PwDs (SSEPD), include ability marathon, exhibition, film festival on disability awareness, photography competition and cultural events.
Scribes ditch blind students at exam hall
BENGALURU: Blind students struggle to find scribes. Thirty per cent do not manage to find one, approximates an NGO that has worked with the disabled for years.
If the students do, after they have worked on their lessons for a year and have convinced all around them that they can do as well as another able student, the scribe may not turn up on the day of the exam. It breaks the students’ courage and any interest to keep at their studies.

Sports meet for differently-abled tomorrow
Sports competitions for differently abled students will be held at Ambedkar Stadium on Thursday at 10 a.m. Deaf and dumb, visually impaired, mentally challenged and differently abled children can participate in the competitions.

Recognise deaf, blind under the disability Act, urge experts
Despite there being about 500,000 deaf-blind people in the country, their basic human rights are not fulfilled as deaf-blindness is yet not recognized under the Persons with Disability Act, said experts at the Goa Advocacy for Deaf-blind meeting held here on Friday.

A regular at Airtel Delhi Half Marathon since 2010, the 48-year-old visually impaired half marathoner said he has found out ways to overcome dependency while practising for the race, mainly because of his resoluteness.
